CRISIS INTERVENTION SERVICE

Crisis intervention is a face-to-face interaction with a person in response to a crisis or emergency situation they are experiencing. Assessment and interventions are based on understanding of what happened to initiate the crisis and the individual’s responses to it.

Risk assessment of lethality, propensity of violence, medical/physical conditions including alcohol/drug screen/assessment, support systems and mental status are conducted.

A treatment or crisis plan

Assessments also include information about the patient’s strengths, coping skills, and social support network, including face-to-face contact with family and/or anyone who can provided collateral information.

A treatment or crisis plan is developed to de-escalate the crisis, stabilize the patient, restore safety, provide referral, and linkages to appropriate services, and coordination with other systems of care.

In the case patients appear to be medically unstable, they are referred to a medical facility or emergency medical service. Crisis intervention mental health service are provided by licensed social workers and licensed independent social workers.
